Bainbridge is to be found near to the confluence England's shortest river, the Bain, which flows from lake Semerwater the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, and the River Ure. It is approximately three miles long. Situated on the road to Ilkley the original Roman name for Bainbridge, a roman fort, was "Virosidum". Today it consists of attractive cottages and houses set around the large village green, complete with stocks. Traditionally a horn was blown each winters evening to help guide travellers down from the fells.
